Returning to live in England all these memories of growing up in Ireland were stored and now find themselves translated into abstract paintings. These use vivid colours like the flowers which she photographs. A spell in London refurbishing houses completed her education, as it was necessary to carry colours around in ones head whilst matching up samples of fabric or paints. Visits to showrooms and exhibitions continually introduced her to new materials and added to this catalogue of memories.
About the Artist
Summers were spent in Donegal where visits to the local tweed factory provided further introduction to colour. Vibrant dyes were used which mimicked the surrounding scenery, gorse yellow and vivid purple, amongst others. There were also visits to salmon rivers and walks along the shore. To a child experiencing such a place furnished a rich experience of landscape but it was the jewel like colour of flowers which attracted Ursula’s keen eye; the lane to the cottage was thick with fuchsia hedges.
